    S stamp on M1917?

I have a friend that has an Eddystone M1917, and the bolt release has an "S" stamped on it. I've never seen an "S" stamp on any of the other M1917s that I've disassembled ever before. Anybody know what this stamp is? It can't be Savage, Stevens, or Springfield. Thanks.
