SP Primer Surprize - Federal .45 ACP at Wally World

Went to Walmart to buy some .45. This box was only $17. Now I know why, small pistol primers. There is no designation anywhere on the box that this is clean, green or special ammo in any way. It has the std lead warning label. Using my Dillon, the only way to handle this is to size & decap them singly, then prime them separately in the Lee Autoprime. Then I would run them into the Dillon at the powder charge station, and replace the shell retainer button with my finger at the bottom. Not sure I want to mess with it.

At least the price was right. Why not just give it to someone set up to reload it?

Why wouldn't you just set up the small primer slide and tube for the Dillon? I still don't see the problem.

I am in the middle of a run of .45 so I am not breaking it down. I bought these to run some "factory" ammo through a new gun, that test is done, they shot ok and the gun shoots fine. Just because I like to experiment, I went ahead and loaded them "the hard way" which did not take very long. We will see soon how they perform.

Quite annoying if you don't sort your .45 brass! (I will sort WWII steel cases from brass, but that's about it.- BTW, those steel cases have been reloaded I don't know how many times in the past 30 years! Can't hardly kill 'em.)

I reloaded some (see post below) and had primer leakages. The only thing I can figure is that the case heads are" hollow" from rim to center where primer sits. I'm guessing that upon firing, the primer backs out to your breach face and allows some gas to escape. I think Federal is now owned by the same group the makes the Blazer ammo and while having a different names, the cases may be the same mfg. The case pictured appeasr to be "low" in the center where the primer pocket is.

You sound pretty wound up about it...it shouldn't be a big thing. I'm sure you have lots of brass.

Idiots at work, Iran, Vladimir Putin, the media, Chicom hackers, the 3 ring circus of an election, I get a little wound up about that stuff, but really not that much. I never get wound up about reloading or shooting. I was a little miffed at the surprise. I loaded them up pretty quick to compare to my other std loads, we'll see how they shoot and function.

Would the other thread on small primered .45 be pertinent?
