    Can anyone ID this buttplate?

I saw this one on an IO stock that sold on eBay a couple of days ago - it's got me puzzled. Has anyone seen one like this before? Thanks - Bob

Similar to an early Winchester except for where the screw goes in.

Looks like a Shelby Spring Hinge made plate. Similar to the S-S3, but no markings.

I didn't think it had the distinct border around it like a QHM, or the two "missing diamonds" in the row above the screw hole like the S-S3. I really don't know what it is, except I agree that it's real close to the late Winchester. I think the plate shown in Fig. 4-7 of Riesch 6th. edition is late Winchester, but the diamonds in the row below the screw hole don't quite match it, either. If there really are a couple of variations on the late Winchester, maybe this is something made during the transition between the two?? - Bob

    USGI,
I felt bad about you staying up so late being so curious about a Buttplate.

Here's another, that I think is the same. Just incase you can't sleep tonight either.

I don't have the computer skills to put your picture and mine side by side for a easier comparison. I'm doing the best I can with a 12th grade education and 2 years of trade school......
Still better than my Uncle Vernon, who was the only one in 5th grade to be drafted.

I just figured out I can open your picture and pull it down next to one I posted for a side by side......

    Cheers,
    Charlie-painter777

Charlie, please notice that I'm on "early" tonight. What do you figure - maybe one of those BP's got stamped a little harder than the other? I noticed today that the S-S3 on the Chesnut Ridge site looks different than the one shown in Riesch 6th edition. So is S-S3 your "final answer"? I'm going with that guess, or NPM until someone else chimes in. Getting sleepy, need to get to bed! Hey, I had 2 years of trade school and also have an uncle named Vernon that served in the Army - no painters in the family that I can think of, though! - Thanks, Bob
