Installation of Sling Stud on DPMS FF Handguard

Free Float Tube Bipod Stud and Nut

DPMS recommends the nut and stud above for installation on FF handguard for bipod. I can screw the front part of the handguard off easily. See pic below.

After marking the location for the stud at bottom center, I could unscrew the handguard and drill and tap. Then mount the stud and the nut inside. Problem is the clearance between the inner edge of the handguard and the gas block. Seems like not enough space to allow the handguard to screw back on with the stud and nut installed. Has anyone done installed a sling stud on a DPMS LR308 FF handguard?

I used this one and filed down the collar to just a fraction less than the thickness of the tube wall. There is a slight curve to it that just fit inside the tube. I drilled a hole, then fed the plate in from the front installed the sling swivel, tightened and done!

Bill, thanks for the response! So I think what you are calling the collar is that cylindrical piece under (attached to) the curved flange, or between the flange and the sling stud? (This sling stud has a "washer" attached to it.)

So based upon what I see in the pic, unscrew & remove the sling stud (shown screwed up into the collar), then file down the collar. Drill a hole in the tube as big as the collar diameter, slip the flange into the tube, then screw in the collar to the flange. Then screw the stud into the bottom of the collar, and the stud's washer should contact the tube bottom. Correct? Looks like a very sturdy arrangement. I think I figured out how to do it with the DPMS stud and a 10-32 nut, but your method looks much more solid to me, and no thread tapping.

You got it. It is very sturdy. Like I really needed it but I put one small drop of blue Loctite on the thread.
