    LB rear sight id

I have a Long Branch rear sight that looks like a MkI with the screw adjustment but it has no battle aperture and is marked with what looks like a Maltese cross. Has anyone seen this one before?

Well, its not for sure, but (T) Snipers will have the battle sight milled off so the sight will clear the scope when mounted...and I believe the cross stamp meant it was a fitted, non-interchangeable part....

Other guys would probably know for sure though....

    Yup...

As pzjgr points out, the "Maltese Cross" purportedly indicates non-standard parts. You often see it on various parts made by Savage and fitted to Long Branch sniper rifles. ie: wood components and rear sights.

Check under the Canada - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)

Read the Observations section and view the 160 pic photo montage of our MKLicon entry of a 1945 Enfield No.4 Mk1*(T) Long Branch Sniper Rifle (click here).

On various examples, I've seen the rear sight marked with the "Maltese Cross" and on some others not. You should find it underneath up front on the forestock as well.

If you're selling it, I think you should get some opinions on value and perhaps even auction it, as I think Long Branch No.4(T) collectors might anty up a goos sum for it.

    Regards,
    Badger

Thanks for the info. I have more than one so I may auction one off, as much interested to see what it's worth!
