A really nice Lithgow visited me

Hi folks,

A fellow trusted me with his beautiful Lithgow No1Mk3*. From the looks of it, it probably wasn't used for more than a few dozen rounds.

The forend was loose at the recoil lugs and also there was a good 0.003" gap between the back of the forend and the receiver where there shouldn't be any space. That's fixed, now I hope I can find the time to go to the range to test her out. Hope you enjoy looking at this beautiful girl

Maybe Ned, but comparing the fitting of the butt plate, I think its down to us....

Lou, you didn't pack the back of the foreend, did you? The .003" gap you mentioned would have either been caused by shrinkage ( not likely that much, but maybe) or by the wear on the recoil lugs allowing the forend to slip forward. The recoil lugs have to be fixed to take up that gap.

I recognize the import mark. It was imported to the USA in the late 1980's and found it's way north of the border. Some of the very first LE rifles I bought when I got licensed in 1990 came from them. Lovely rifle. I think my Dad still has a 1945 in his collection.

Even after fixing the recoil lugs, there still was a gap behind the forend - but the bottom half. The top half was touching,

Certainly a SAP issue , but its a BSA commercial the sling marked SAP also and possibly the owners name on the inside of sling.
