Yard Sale Carrying Case Purchase

I found this at a yard sale on Saturday and didn't know for sure what it was at the time. I figured it was probably for the M1 Carbine but not sure. I have learned that it is for the M1 Carbine but don't know if it is a real one or a reproduction. It's in good shape other than the penmanship which I assume is a previous "owners" initials and last name. I can't explain the tiger striping in the photos. It may be my computer screen or the camera. If you don't see it, it's my computer screen.

Length is 41 1/2 inches.

I unfortunately don't have an M1 to put in it and don't foresee one in my near future.

Any thoughts? Is it real, should I leave the name alone or try to remove it. If removing, how? Was $10 a good deal?

Aging looks real. Many carbine guys hear I am sure you can get a definitave answer. I must say, you have a good eye. Looks like a good excuse to buy a carbine. They are a bit on the high side CMP auction only etc...

What's the name on the zipper? Make sure you look closely at the side too. It looks real and even if it's wasn't, you did okay. The TWEEDIES is awfully brilliant. That would be my only concern from a quick look at the pics.
If it's real, I'd offer you $50.

The name on the zipper is "TALON" spelled vertically rather than horizontally.

Some questions on the length and the end so here are some photos of that. From what I can tell the fabric is the same in type and color. The stitching is the same on the end but starts where you can see on the photos.

I know nothing about these but from where I got it, I have no reason to believe it to be fake. I got a partial box of 7.33 carcano ammo off the same fellow. He was young, way too young to have these or know what they are (20's I'd guess), I'm thinking they were cleaning out an attic for the yard sale. It was all the military stuff he had.

It is not your screen, I see it too, and it does not alter if you slide the image across the screen.

It's Moiré patterning, the same effect as you observe if you look through the folds of lacy curtains or gauze. Just a coincidence that the spacing of the weave in the focussed image is almost the same as the pixle spacing in your camera. If you try the same photo at a slightly different range or magnification, it will disappear.

Thanks for the explanation, I was thinking it might be some sort of infrared camo pattern when I first saw it but that wouldn't make sense for WWII.

Yes! Interference between two fine rasters. It is also a problem with color newsprint (because of the dot rasters) that requires careful orientation of the color layers at different angles.

I think its real. One big tip is the zipper, which is usually brass in the repos. Also, the color and weave of the canvas. Depending on what was used to make the red letters, it might be removable without bleaching out the canvas.
