I'm away from my references so what exactly is it? It appears to have a post service grip replacing the original.
Uggggggh! Reminds me of those chromed 'mickey mouse' SMLE's and AK47's that the Basra Palace Guards used to strut around with. A handle like that, as opposed to a bayonet, means that you've got to be holding it up very close to use it. Whereas with a bayonet, at least you've got a yard between you.
I know it's all psychological, but as they teach you in your very basic training, that even though it's the very last means of mechanical defiance, there's something extremely fearsome about closing in with bayonets fitted.
