    P-U stock question

I recently de-grunged the stock on my Underwood. After the cleanup I have noticed the wood grain seems much finer than the grain in my other carbines. Not as fine as birch, but definitely finer than walnut. The wood is also reddish, rather than brown, with a pleasing striped grain. Did Pedersen/Underwood ever use cherry as a substitute wood? It's a high wood oval cut stock marked P-U in the slingwell. Sorry, but my camera just won't pick up the difference.

I think I read somewhere that Cherry was an approved alternate to Walnut and Birch, and a few companies did make some Cherry stocks. I don't recall if any cherry wood stocks made it onto combat rifles however.

I don't think they did use cherry. I think only Rock-Ola used the cherry to any extent. But they did use all kinds of colored walnut, not just the dark wood but the lighter shades too.
