It is on sale a bit far from my location so that your help is very appreciated.

Italian/Austrain Border Patrol? Many unknown European markings. I have heard that P. Beretta ended up holding 5,000 US M1903's. Not sure if they still have them or not.

All these markings are Italian proof marks.





"PSF" with the star over it stands for "Smoke less powder proof"
"AL" is the importation year, 1983

Looks like it has been reblued, the markings on the receiver are not as deep as they should be. Stock has been heavily sanded, had a crack and must have once been on a rifle with a Lyman rear sight. What is the barrel date?

I sent last night and email to the owner to ask for barrel date but no answer yet.
It should be 1907 I guess.

It would appear to have a Sedgley barrel or a Sedgley fixed rear sight base at the least. The way the rear of the fixed rear sight base is buggered up it's probably just a sedgley that's been hammered off and put on something else. The upper hand guard looks to be a Remington.

You have a Sedgley Rifle. Sedgley was a surplus arms merchant during the 1930's Great Depression who bought scrap rifle parts from the Army, repaired, refinished, and assembled them into functional rifles for commercial resale. You will note that the receiver ring has been buffed and re-blued, the upper band was once rust pitted and now refinished, and the stock has two substantial repairs. The small encircled "S" adjacent to the rear sight is the Sedgley trademark.

John beat me to it, to add a little more, single heat treat, and it shouldnt be fired, Remington 1903A3 bolt, stock not only is broken , but looks to be an aftermarket stock, handguard is nice, but id check to make sure its not a modified 1917 fron guard, and a cut down 1903 rear guard,
check the chamber to make sure that a hole isnt drilled through the chamber area, and at one time had a pin drivin through it..i would pass on that example.

I found another M1903 which comes to a cheaper price.

It has a new barrel R A 5-43
The stock seems to be original with P circled mark
Unfortunatly the actual owner is not able to take good pictures.
When he bought it he was told the rifle had been refurbished in arsenal.
