Leaf rear sight, type 1 band, high wood oval cut stock, 2 rivet handguard, looks like push safety. 1945 and hadn't seen any upgrades yet, other then the surpressor. Interesting, thanks for posting it.

If this guy is a soldier I'm suprised he is still a PFC, judging from the condition of his uniform. Correct me if I'm wrong but all solders on duty out of doors were (are) required to wear some type headgear. Look at all of the uniform buttons undone and the belt end hanging out. I swear I can even see Irish pennants. My guess he is a vet with a mailed home carbine and he has cut and welded an M3 flash hider to make a Cutts-type compensator. But I suppose he could just be a sh*tbird private in a backwater post with a lot of time on his hands. JMHO

My question is "To what end?" Was it to reduce felt recoil? Come on, it's a carbine. Let's just take the recoil...Reduce flash? Not a problem as far as I can remember...

The way the holes are drilled makes it a compensator to control muzzle rise in automatic fire.

Sure I know what it's supposed to do, but in 1945? Pretty rude item. I doubt it does much of anything. In case you didn't guess, I'm scoffing at his invention...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but how is that possible that it would be an M3? It's all old style equipment.

The suppressor looks like it goes on similar to a recoil check, which can be removed.

Looks welded to me. I would think even back then if they were going to do it "right", they'd have a machinist thread the barrel. But then again.....
