I just bought a new Mauser at the last gun show, and need to know what I have. I know it's a Mauser, but am not sure what model it is. A .35 Whelen factory load is too long for the magazine, so it's one of the "intermediate" length actions. It's been cut down and traditional sporting style open sights installed. It's a bit rough, but for $120, I can't complain.
On the front receiver ring is some sort of nearly squarish crest that isn't distinct at all. Underneath this in an arc like the bottom of a circle are the words "Fabrica de Armas" and under that in a straight line is the word "Oviedo." Below that is the date 1900.
Any help identifying it would be appreciated, as well as info on whether it's a small or large barrel shank. Thanks for any help.Information
