Trying to Revive a Remington 1903 back to origional

I just traded for a Remington 1903 dated May 1942 with May1944 with a High Standard 5 44 replacement barrel. The barrel has Remington inspectors stampings.
I have 2 questions: 1. Some of the parts have R stampted and others don't have the stamps.Ist it worth to find the correct R stamped Parts?.
2. The receiver has a rough finish compared to other 03's that I have handled. Is this because the rifle was a last ditch effort for the 03's?

Gary - Your Rem 1903 rifle rolled out of the factory with an "RA" marked barrel, so likely an arsenal overhaul. The HS barrel, tho not original, is still well regarded and I would just leave it in place and shoot it. Restoring any 1903 these days is going to involve money and time better spent elsewhere. A nice 1903 Remington barrel of the correct period is likely to set you back $250.

Thanks for the reply. At the last gun show here in Vegas i spent way more then I should for a R stamped Upper Band just because it had an R stamped on it and it was still in the origional wrapping.
My next project is to find a Lower Band machined with the letter "U" and "R" . If you know of one please let me know.
My goal is to have a rifle that any WW2 Marine would be proud of and origional as possible.

Your best and most economical method for reaching your goal is to find and buy a rifle which already satisfies it. Rifles like you seek are out there, reasonably priced.

I agree with the others -- you will find it especially expensive to find a lower band and trigger guards marked with an R.
