    K98k sling width?

I've just bought a replica sling on-line and it looks awfully thin - 23 mm wide. Does anyone have a real K98kicon sling that they could measure for me please?

Don´t think that that´s the way to go. As with all old leather slings, there´s a lot of shrinkage, which means that they also get shorter with age. The usual method is to soak the leather and stretch the sling. But then it gets noticeably thinner. So a thinner sling could be proof that it´s genuine.

I've a couple floating about. Under an inch wide? That does seem awfully narrow. If I stumble across them today, I'll measure them. But that's providing they surface...

I just fitted it to the rifle and it seems fine.

It seems to be yet another example of how little thought the Germans put into this rifle in terms of usability.

Mmm, I think their attention was more on the MP38/40 and MG38/42, tanks, and short range aircraft. But don't let on to the Mauser fans. Of which our fine host is one.
