Just a heads up, I don't have photos and don't own it.
Local gun auction had a Carcano short rifle for sale this morning. Yesterday when I was looking the guns over, I picked it up and noticed immediately that it had an extension on the barrel. Looks like a simple tubular flash suppressor. It was also missing the adjustable portion of the rear sight, the stock had been heavily sanded and the metal looked re-blued.
I came home and checked the computer listings for the rifles and found this one was labeled as a Bavarian police rifle. Did some research on that, notably Italy's Battle Rifle and discovered that this indeed did meet the descriptions of such a rifle. But a clear warning is given that these are easily faked and I believe this one to have been one. The lettering was not stamped but pantograph engraved in a slightly wider font than the sample photo.
It sold for $225 which is well over what it was worth as a standard rifle.Information
