    30 Carbine ammo

A friend of a friend says he's got 1500 rounds of carbine ammo. He's going to let me know what type it is in the next few days. Question here is what's it worth, low-end figure - middle figure??? Will probably have to make offer on the spot. Thanks, Gene

Commercial brass cased Carbine ammo (WW, RP, Magtech, etc.) runs $26 to $30 a box for FMJ, and can be had for $450/1,000. WOLF, Herters steel cased, TULAMMO steel are terrible. I chipped an extractor with Wolf. The Russianicon steel cased are dirty, inconsistent, inaccurate, and unreliable. I got 1.000 Wolf cheap, chipped an extractor with the first box, terrible groups and FTFs, and sold 950 rounds off.

Magtech is the hottest at about 2,020 fps, Then Remington and Winchester at about 1920-1940 fps, then PRVI at about 1900 fps. Aguilla is underpowered (1800 fps), shoots low, and does not cycle well unless the spring is worn (10" or less).

Just be sure the boxes are not marked 7.62 MM. That would be the fake Chinese LC 52 that is corrosive primed. USGI would be in the $20 range more if it's on stripper clips. Any brass case commercial ammo should be in the $20 to $30 range per box of 50. You can find Aguila for about $17 a box plus shipping if you look around.

But as imarangemaster said stay away from the steel case no matter who makes it. Junk ammo with almost all of it coming out of Russianicon.

I grabbed a box of Steel Match by mistake not realizing it was was steel casings, DUH! Shot them after much thought and talking to other shooters. Consensus was that a box of 50 probably wouldn't do any damage. Shot the box with no problems and seemed very accurate. That was my first and last steel casings through my little carbine.

Is the CMPicon Lake City .30 cal Carbine ammo a good way to go?

Anything good or bad about it?

This was my experience with a double charged Tulammo and I'm going to be a little more careful with my next rifle.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. I'm not a big shooter but I think I'll be able to get them pretty cheap. Thanks Again, Gene

2 weeks ago I bought 500 loose rounds of LC43 ammo for .27/round. The guy I bought it from has approx. 500 more rounds at home that he is also going to sell me when he picks it up during Thanksgiving.

From what I understand, Hornady buys the primed steel cases from Russiaicon (Ulyvostok). I know steel cased ammo was made by the US during WWII, but I understood it was fairly soft steel and just used for training stateside. I have one .45 and one M1icon Carbine with steel cases in my collection.

Been having mucho problem with this site, not sure why, but I finally managed to login to post tonight. What's "terrible" about TULAMMO? I shot a box this weekend at the range, full auto, flawless, and while it is a bit sooty, for the price I ain't complaining
