    $500 Oiler?

Current $510 bid for an Inland oiler on ebay. It's getting kinda slow here. Anyone care to speculate what this is all about?

Maybe someone mistyped what should have been $5.10?

Not a joke. If the previous bid was, say, $5.00 and you want to raise to $5.10 by overtyping in the box, it is dreadfully easy to wipe out the decimal point when you enter the 10. E voilá - you have bid $510. Never overtype in the box, but always erase the figures from the previous bid and write the whole number afresh.

I would like to see the buyer's face when he meets someone who knows a bit about carbines and proudly shows off his "rarity"!

Looking on the bright side, I now realize that what I thought was half a dozen .30M1 oilers sitting in a spare parts drawer is, in fact, the wherewithal to buy a couple of Garands
And the one I use to hold the sling loop is worth more that the carbine it's attached to

Perhaps I could write to the second bidder and say "hey, you can have one of mine for only $499"

Pretty crazy bids for a $45-$50 oiler that's for sure. Heck, that measn I have $2500 in Inland oilers lying around.

The seller will be happy if the guy actually pays that amount for it.

Looks fishy. To me it looks like bidder C*****F is doing something called BUMPING. You get a friend to bump up the bids for you then if someone overbids you dont bid anymore. If you notice at least from what Bill Hollinger posted C******F over bid themselves. No one in their right mind would do that. It really should be reported to Ebay. Its against the rules.

    Shennannigans (sp?)

I have met this seller. He lives just a piece (that's what we call about 20 miles in Kentucky) down the road from me and I have dealt with him face to face. From my brief contact with him I judge him to be a knowledgable and serious private collector. In the past he has normally included very truthfull, knowledgable and factual descriptions of the militaria he sells, so I don't know what this "rare" stuff is all about. Maybe the times they are a changin'. I'm certainly not acusing him of shennannigans because of one squirrely bid but, as many of you are aware, I believe the shill bidding is pretty widespread online. I sure hope some poor unsuspecting guy doesn't end up with a $500 oiler.

The first "I" looks really funky though, doesn't it? It sure does to me.
