My first 1917

Hello,

Just registered here and thought someone could answer a question or questions for me. I recently purchased a M1917 Remington Rifle made in late 1918. Its never been re-arsenal'd and is all original. To start, i was curious about a mark on the receiver. On the left side is the eagle marking but near that is a little banner looking mark and i was hoping someone could tell me what it means.

If needed i will post pictures.

I can oblige: The first two are the mark and the other two are of the rifle overall
(Cant seem to get really good pictures at moment but will get some help for that Monday)

Its not a ding, and I've seen it on other 1917's when searching the net but the collectors articles and books I've read don't mention it.

Found this picture on another forum: when you zoom in its there. Mines a Remington and this is Eddystone

What I can see are two eagle head markings, one with signs of useage.

Ones an eaglehead which is a US proof or acceptance mark used since the 18th century. The other I'm not sure.

They are both eagle heads. Here's mine. They are inspectors marks.
