Has a New Bar Been Set for No4 Mk2 Wrapped Rifles?

If I could find more buyers like this, I would buy as many of the $800 to $1,000 No4 Mk2 wrapped rifles and double my money!! The thing that amazes me the most is that if you take the time to look, you can find wrapped rifles with the Buy-It-Now option for under $1,000.

It's a bit of a swizz saying that the ones in the UK are new in the wrap because by definition, they have been partially uncovered, barrel cleaned/cleared, proof fired, proof stamped and then presumably wrapped up again! So unless the UK held ones are a private import, still with the original importer regrdless of whether he is a dealer or private individual, then they'll have to have gone through the proof house. Or am I missing something?

The UK ones were found in the deceased effects of a retired Colonel along with some other items that were saved from destruction

Its true they have now gone through UK proof, so are not still sealed in the wrap, buts thats the UK proof laws.

Ah........, you wouldn't understand Taff. Not unless you actually had one of these valuable, still totally sealed, unproofed sacks of grease and sticky paper that was appreciating in value daily in your sticky mitts! It'd be interestiung to know the serial numbers of those 'found in a Colonels effects' rifles. I expect that the Custome service (speak to the imports director (Firearms) Chris xxxxxy and he'll see what numbers the import registers turn up.

As you pointed out Peter in your first post to comply with UK law the rifle has to be proofed which means unpacking cleaning the barrel and action at the very least so that it can be proof fired, once this has been done it is no longer a "virgin" and can't be sold as such.
I have a pristine No4 Mk2 (F) dated 2/54 , all matching including the magazine that I paid £250 a couple of years ago and that included a Parker Hale 8/53 windage rear sight.
I fully appreciate that in other countries the laws are different which means it is possible to buy a "Virgin" rifle but here in the UK would I pay the £1200 that Simon quoted for a rifle and a pile of sticky paper and grease the answer is no but if some else is prepared to do so then good luck to them, Virginity only happens once......

One of them was PF36784#, I not sure of the last digit as the image was not clear enough and or the cosmoline obscured the digit, this one was dated 9/53

They are 2000 plus in Australia without the bayonet so its certainly not a new high where I come from.
