    Ross MkII sight question

Ok it's been over a year since I posted here and have been prompted by the site to ask a question so here it is.

I just purchased a Ross MkII it's probably a *** and is US proofed. The question I have is, I had bore sighted the rifle at 75 yrs through the peep hole with the ladder up. The zero lines on the moving peep and the stationary sight meet dead ball so the peep must have been factory bore sighted. However when I put the sight ladder down and use the open "V" sight. The front sight blade is probably about 6-8" to the left of the target. As this would be the battle sight, is that to compensats for right drift of the bullet and the peep sight would probably have to be moved also to compensate. Ray

I think you are supposed to "zero" the gun with the folded leaf sight and them set the adjustable peep sight to match that windage.

You're right but the rear V sight is stationary so the front sight would have to be moved. It just seems odd that the peep sight is zero'd to the bore where the 0 line on the movable peep platform and the stationary zero line both align. Keeping in mind these are two seperate sights and you don't use the peep when you're using the battle sight, Ray

What a complicated sight to put on a battle rifle. As bad as the M1905 sight on the Springfield!

Remember: Canadaicon gathered up a bunch of older MkII's of various earlier configurations as well as rifles originally assembled as MkII***'s to sell to the US in 1917- These were apparently purchased for square-bashing, not shooting, so sight alignment wouldn't have been a real priority at the time.
