    Need help with info on BSA enfield 1909 mk111

    Hello, I am trying to get any info i can on a 1909 BSA Enfield .303 with matching serial numbers 57026, has crown stamp with ER under it. SHTLE 111 Barrel face stamped 57026 with U stamped above it. Just picked it up on trade, previous owner told me he hand picked it from a dealer and it was still packed in grease when he bought it. has only had 18 rounds fired thru it since he bought it. It has some other markings on it, Any info and value would be appreciated

    Pictures would be very helpful here. There'll be a big difference in value between an '09 dated ShtLE MkIII in intact original condition and one in "less than" condition. It would also help to know what other information you are looking for.

    Thank you for the reply, My camera is not the greatest but here are a few pics, just trying to find out anything i can about this rifle. there are other markings on the rifle but I have no idea what marks are important, what they mean or what I need to look for? I am at the mercy of the experts here. Before i got it in my hands i was thinking about adding a montecarlo stock but now I wouldnt dream of it!

    Looks like a pretty nice one. It's been in Australianicon service, probably since shortly after WWI. It's no longer in original condition, having been refurbed while in Oz. That part of it's history might be stamped on the right side of the butt, the top left part of the receiver ring, and/or on the lower left part of the buttsocket, under the safety spring/lever.

    Barring any problems not evident here and local considerations, it'll be worth the going value of a standard MkIII*...$225-$325-ish in these parts ( PNW...U.S.). A Monte Carlo butt would lower that considerably, and would make the angels cry (unless you kept all of the original bits to put it back right).

    Wow I knew I came to the right place! Thank you very much, My wife was amazed how much could be told by my bad pics! I always say if you want an expert answer ask the experts! No worries on the monte carlo stock this one will keep its history intact. This is my first enfield, anything special I need to be concerned with or look out for?

    It's out of Australianicon service and rebuilt, (FTR), to Mk.III* configuration.

    If for some reason you go to remove the butt be sure to take the fore end off first. Some of them have a square tip on the bolt that can split the fore end if it is in place. I'm not sure if yours has Aussie wood on it now, last one I had with the coachwood fore end had a little collar in there that I would imagine would stop this but I always think its best to be safe!
