RFI 1947 .410 smooth bore

Can anyone tell me what the alum band with SSXXXXXX around the trigger guard is for on my .410 smooth bore? It was origionaly a No1 Mk3 Enfield dated 1919 on the right side, RFI 1947 .410 on the left side.

When Springfield Sporters imported huge batches of rifles from India and the far east they pop riveted the numbered aluminum band around the trigger guard bow. I don't know why as the bands are removable and therefore not the book serial number for the Feds. It may have been book keeping on the shipping side and a later book generated with cross index of band and serial numbers. I never thought to ask when I was there.
