    Jungle Carbine feeding problem

My new rifle is a No5Mk1 9/1946 ROF(F). It has cleaned up very nicely. (no bubbaing, just cleaning). It is surprisingly accurate with my reloads. (314299 WW over 18.4g of 2400 in Rem cases with CCI#200 and COL of 2.930)
The original magazine did not feed cases at all. The spring seems weak and the magazine box appears to be bent not allowing the follower to glide the cartridges up correctly.
I ordered a new No4 magazine from Springfield Sporters. It appears to be new unissued and was covered in cosmolineicon. After a serious US cleaning it replaced it's predecessor. Now I have a new feeding problem. To get the cartridge to present to the bolt for insertion I need to bump the base of the magazine with a sturdy thump via the palm of my hand.

Suggestions please! Will a new spring fix it?

Maybe. Sometimes it's the whole mag. Did you say cases? Like empties? They won't help much. Your cartridges may be too long too. If they're reloads that is...check over-all length.

There are many questions and answers which WILL answer your querie on the standard Lee Enfield Forum on this site. In short, it is really a matter of fitting the magazine. All the magazines are hand fitted,. That's why they are a) not interchangeable and b) numbered to the rifle

Unless one of the more computer literate forumers can find it quickly.

But whatever you do, DO NOT start bending the bloody feed lips before you have fitted the magazine properly

Did you check over all cartridge length? You did say they were re-loads.

Yes 2.930, so that's not a problem. I've found out that there is auxiliary magazine spring that is missing. So I'll be ordering 2 when I find a dealer.

Peter Laidlericon pointed out the importance of this little begger a couple years back. It effects the overall length of the mag in the housing so you have a loose fit and then you get...well, you know.
    Regards, Jim
