    My first BSA Shirley No.5

A 1945 M/47C s.n. CC2259. Matching bolt and fore-end, '0' bolt head, Mk1 backsight, pristine bore, sound furniture, most exposed suncorite finish worn away. Barrel forward of handguard has the London Proof House stamp 'NP'. I've crawled all over this #5 with a light and loupe and there is neither the pre '68 'ENGLAND' stamp or the post '86 import stamp, first Enfleld I've acquired with neither. Came with Poole '46 bayonet, unmarked sling, and action cover stamped 'S-1942', not sure original. Private purchase, $450. This is a fair price in my area. It's been a good week, it was just days ago I purchased the two sealed crates of HXP75 for $600. Thanks for looking, Don

Nice rifle. The Breech cover is an original Savage contract. The sling looks to be Belgian for the FN49 but I could be wrong. There is no such thing as a post '86 import mark that I'm aware of. The U.S. import marking requirements were put in place with the GCAicon '68. We just weren't allowed to import milsurps until 1986.

Right you are Brian, that's what I meant, said poorly. Wonder how it evaded the tariff/import stamps. The sling has the right 'style', but much 'softer' that my known U.K. slings. Here's the barrel under the handguard, I've seen that 'T' before but don't recall meaning??? Nice seeing you on the forum. Cheers, Don

Based upon what I have seen you did very well. The bayonet alone is a $250 peice, action cover $25,sling $15 and rifles $300 and up (mostly up).
Very nice No 5. Thanks for sharing it.

Don, Anythings possible. I have BB8203, also a pre '68 import and it doesn't have the "ENGLAND" stamp either. Maybe they came back in the same batch. Who knows??? Brian
