Only Flying De Haviland Mosquito Arrives!

Our local aviation museum, the Military Aviation Museum, will take delivery of the De Haviland Mosquito that was restored by its New Zealandicon partners tomorrow. It will arrive in three shipping containers. There are pictures from it being crated up HERE. The plane was built in 1945, bought by a farmer and then left to rot in a field. Restoration began eight years ago.

    Thanks!
Since the Burma spitfires did not pan out this will be a nice substitute to watch the progress of reassembly.

M-A-G-N-I-F-I-C-E-N-T. The only word to describe it. If I remember correctly, I seem to recall that one of our ex RNZAF Armourers at Ngaruawahia, Frank Sculley said that there were a few Mosquitops in derelict condition at the RNZAF station close by, on the road to Hamilton. I think it was RAF TeRapa (correct me if I'm wrong about the base someone.....) A few were used as static aircraft, filmed there, for the film 633 Squadron. I expect that they were just scrap then........

Cliff Robertson, the actor, bought a Mosquito after filming "633 Squadron". I know he still had it in the late 1970s. What happened to it?

A bit off course, but I saw their P40 before restoration. Most of it was in wadded up chunks no bigger than a chair. It was shot down and plunged nose first into the tundra at great speed! Can't imagine ANY of the sheetmetal is WWII vintage. Not that it really matters- it flys!

Mosquitos don't last well out in the open, being made of wood.
They co-opted people from all sorts of trades to build them up the road from here, my late friend's father was a piano cabinet maker and got hauled in to do it.
