Do you name your firearms???

For whatever reason I deemed it nessasary to name all my firearms.
I was wondering if I was the only one. For example, K98= Fritz or Type 99= Pearl and so on. I will say my son gets a smile when I tell him to bag up the Boomstick for a range trip.

I don't normally but I do have a couple that had names or initials in the wood when I got them so from time to time I'll refer to them by that name or whatever name the initials sound like. My favorite is ''ED'' the .30 carbine.

July 15th, 2006 - first outing to the range

1" squares target
Range 300 meters using standard commercial .308 Federal Match 168gr.
Temp 74.4f
Humidty 73.4%
Barometer 28.97in.hg
Wind 3.8mph

First shot (top) setting was at 5.75 MoA.
Next 5 shots were at a setting of 4.75 MoA.

Could have come left 1 click and fired another grouping, but didn't have the time.

She was just one solid block of laminate when he started the custom fitting process through several visits over the last 9 months. Needless to say, the wait was worth it .......

Barrel make ..... The barrel is a MacLennan Stainless Steel, 1-12 twist, finishing at 27 inches without the break. It is a medium weight barrel and is about .750 diameter at the muzzle.
Stock make ..... The stock is custom and hand made by me from a Rutland laminated block and finished with about 25 coats of Tru Oil then rubbed down and polished.
Bottom metal ..... The detachable mag is by HS Precision and the bipod is a Harris "S" series.
Trigger ..... The trigger is a factory Remington 700. If it feels good I do nothing more then adjust it for travel and to about 2.5 lbs for weight. If it does not feel good then I will disassemble it, hone all mating surfaces and generally clean it up.
Rings and base ..... The base is a picatinny by Nightforce and the rings are Leupold.
Muzzle brake ..... The muzzle brake is by Holland. It is threaded on and needs to be indexed.
Reamer ..... The reamer is made by Pacific Tool and is called a 308 Bisley. It was chosen for its throat length so as to make it compatible with factory match 168 gr ammo.
Weight of rifle ..... With a scope and a fully loaded 10 rd mag the rifle weighs in at about 13 lbs. This weight is based on our Police Sniper version with a synthetic stock. Invidual custom rifles may vary slightly.


BTW, Keith's project for us the year before was to build my wife (~Angel~) her own custom rig, similar to mine. With it, she and her sniper partner (Scott) won first place as a civilian team in last year's Police/Military O.T.A.B. tactical sniper competition, held in August 2005 at Camp Borden. By invitation only, they competed with other civilian teams, as well as the sniper teams from various police tactical units, the RCMP and military. ~Angel~ and Scott worked like dogs (lots of running) for about a month before, training with Keith and Linda at Milcun and on their own time at the Sharon Gun Club, to get ready for that event.

Here's some fun video from one of vacations in past years, showing ~Angel~ nailing a "first round" hit on a 7" x 21" automatic LaRue target at 1,000 meters (1100 yards). Watch the small orange target next to the large white one. Turn UP your volume and when you hear the shot, listen for how long it takes the "ping" of the metal target to come back.

Big fat stock and a big fat barrel. Used to have a big fat scope as well. Still shoots well after many years, but the round count is kept to the bare minimum to check zeroes and maintain proficiency.

I think I seen a thread like this before. When my kids were little they said my .44 magnum looked like the giant cartoon revolver in the movie Who framed Rodger Rabbit. So it always gets called the Rodger rabbit gun. I also have a NAA mini revolver in .22 magnum that we call Cricket. It's named after the noisy crickett from the movie men in black.
