    Savage No4 MkI*.....Thoughts?

I picked up a Savage No4 MkI* at a show over the weekend. As you can see from the pics, it has some well worn parts on it. The original markings on the butt socket have been scrubbed and replaced with the date of "1944". SNO4MKI* is still on the receiver; however, US PROPERTY has been scrubbed. The rifle was imported by TGI with the serial number TD0002 added.

If I remember correctly, TGI imported a bunch of rifles from Pakistan, so I'm thinking this may be a Khyber Pass rework. Any thoughts?

That does have to win the "Hideous Rifle of the Week" award! And it's all in the details, because the overall photos don't convey the terrifying nature of the beast.

If the price was right I would have taken it home as well, just to post these sorts of photos.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, this is my Safe Queen!!

No, I did not pay much for it, I beat the guy down after I showed him everything pictured above. I still paid more than I should have, but I have a Savage fetish and I thought this might be a Khyber Pass rework, so I purchased it. Besides, I was able to pickup 250 rounds of .303 surplus for $50.00 at the same show, so I still came out ahead.

As a side note, I purchased this knowing it was not and never will be a shooter!

Including, possibly, the action body itself, you think? Everything else seems to qualify that's been shown in detail, including the barrel's bayonet lugs.

The good thing about No.4s is there are millions of parts in circulation. You pointed out the importer reportedly brought in a bunch of Pakistani spares. Piece by piece pull and compare. The rest of the rifle might be worth restoring, but the missing US Property marking might reduce the resale value.
