    Alternative bullet weights

I have to reload some cases for my .30M1 carbine, and I see that the 110gn bullets are getting low.

Has anyone made a serious trial with other weights? 86gns, say, or even 123gns (this would have to be seated quite deeply to maintain the maximum OAL).

I used the 123 gr bullet, it comes out a bit off that when using wheel weights and gas checks. I've used it for years and no problems. I used IMR 4227, but I'd check the ball powders first. They're easier for use in a progressive press.
    Regards, Jim

I have been load 115 grain cast, moly coated Bear Creek bullets with 11 grains of 2400. Good results:

Thanks a lot, I checked out your range report. It would be very interesting if you could find the time to conduct a test off a sandbag, to reduce your PWF. My carbine is also an SP, original barrel dated 2-44 and up to now the best results were with the 110gn Remington-UMC.

I use the Lyman 130 gr plain base and either 2400 or 4227 powder. I get good accuracy and no leading. I recently bought a 115 gr RN gas check design, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

The one thing I noticed about the 115 Moly bullets is that the shoot lower (lower velocity), so I use the 200 setting instead of the 100/150 when I shoot them. The moly with 11 grains of 2400 cycled the action fine, too.

The 110 copper clad print to the same POA/I as the 110 Remingtons. The cast loads are really fun. I am glad I picked up 1,000 slugs before they all disappeared in the hysteria.
