US M1 Carbine

I just have bought an USM1 Carbine Mod. parachutist, made by Underwood and wearing the number 1543037, I could not find the fabrication year, 1943 or 1944.

I believe that serial number belongs to National Postal Meter. Look at the back of the receiver on top and you should see their name unless the rear sight is hiding it. You may be looking at the barrel and thinking since it may have been made by Underwood, that is why you're calling it one. I am not the world's best at dating m1 carbines, but your build date is probably going to be mid to later 1943. I hope this helps.

The folding stock variant of the M1 carbine is the "M1A1 carbine". It was made only by Inland Division of General Motors. And, Inland Div made every part.

Your "barreled action" may have been installed during arsenal rebuilding, or by a subsequent civilian owner. Or, you may have a commercial reproduction stock. Or....other possibilities. You might want to post photos for us.

I bet it's the genuine article, probably been around there since the end of WWII. Now if it was over here, sure, it could be anything. PICS WOULD BE GREAT!
