1905, M1942, 1905E, 1905E1 WWII Bayonets?

Trying to get this information straight.

I have heard reference to the terms 1905, 1905E, 1905E1 and M1942

Now from what I can gather

1905 were The 16" models 1905 bayonets , used WWI and WWII (dated 1906-1922)
1905E were The 16" models 1905 cut to 10" used in WWII
M1942 were the The 16" models made in 1942 and 1943
1905E1 were the M1942 models cut to 10"

OK so I am trying to figure out if the above is correct. I couldn't find any real good reference to 1905E and 1905E1. From what I understand, the E stands for Experimental. The 1905E I assume deals with the original 1905s that were cut to 10".

The 1905E1 I assume deals with the newly created 1905 models made in 1942 - 1943 that were then cut to 10"

I also heard that the early 1942 and 1943 16" bayonets were called M1942 by collectors only and not by the military.

Am I off base with these assumptions? Thanks.

Nope all those are officially M1's or 1905's the other names are all collector designations to seperate the various models, many from texts long ago that became accepted as fact because there was nothing else out there. the full length blades were 1905's the short ones were officialy M1's whether cut down or new made.

Cool. I will revise what I wrote in an article I put up on the website. There just seems to be so much info out on the internet and in bayonet books that talks about 1905E Thanks.

Little off topic. I found a bayonet online and the guy had in the ad that it was a 1905 Bayonet. I emailed him and said something like FYI the bayonet you have listed is an M1 and not a 1905 (I gave more info on why it wasn't). I gave my number to the guy because I was interested in buying it. A little while later he calls and starts fighting with me (over the phone), that his ad was correct and that he had a 1905 bayonet. I tried to tell him as nice as I could that it wasn't. He eventually hangs up on me. :-). I looked for the ad again and what do you know he changed it to M1 bayonet. I guess I was right after all.

I wouldn't worry about it. We've all been through that. If it's something you want to buy, it doesn't matter if he calls it a mixing spoon.
