Build project - No4 receiver and No5 barrel...

Hi folks, I know this could be seen as something of a sacriledge, but I had a spare No5 barrel, and a No4 receiver. Both of them were in sad shape, but at least the barrel had good rifling. So I made a Jungle Carbine from spare parts. I posted the story in the "Restorer's Corner" section. FINISHED IT.... So I had this spare No4 action, and a Jungle carbine barrel...

    Hope you enjoy,

    Lou

It looks great! Now you have one that you can take to the range and shoot without concern that you will damage it's collector value.

You could always call it a "Peter Laidlericon Special"

Here is an excerpt fromone of Peters post 26th July 2008

"......I think I mentioned earlier that when we were doing the big Crown Agents FTR programme, it was priced (so I was told) that if 70 came in, 70 went out and if some were ZF’d (scrap) then they’d be replaced from our ANZUK (I think this was Aust, NZicon and UKicon stockholdings) mobilization stores from the huge …., and I mean HUGE Ordnance stockpiles close by at Johore Bahru. So we would cannibalise No5’s and if necessary, send them out with No4 bodies....."
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

He he he... Indeed they had other more exciting things to do than pose for me, but shortly after this pic was taken they were back in the farm field next to our lot, looking for groundhogs and other critters. The joys of springtime...

To be honest, I always thought that the best No5's were the hybrids
