    Savage with LB mark

Does an LB mark on the socket of a Savage #4 just indicate that the rifle was refurb'd at some point at LB, or was there some double stamping done during the war? I know that some LB rifles on occasion have S stamped parts on them, but haven't run across this one before. Maybe I just didn't notice.....

It is a standard 1943 No 4 Mk I*, with the 39C series serial number set over the the Square S and the date, with a crisp LB cartouche next to the S. No FTR marks. No C Broad Arrows that I see. Doesn't look like it was used, so might well be a refurb but the marks are very crisp.

Thats not an "LB", its a "B".

"B" is commonly found on the butt socket of Savage rifles. IIRC it is not determined what the "B" actually means, although one theory was that it was an acceptance stamp of some kind.

You're right. Took another close look at it (with my reading glasses on that I now am forced to admit I need ) and there is no tail sticking out in front of the B. Thanks.
