New Addition - Finn Capture Tula 1938 M91/30...

Bought this at an auction in New Zealands southernmost city yesterday.....

Finn Captured Tula 1938 M91/30. Typical Finnishicon mix of parts, and no attributes of Finnish rework.

Unfortunately the bolt is not matching (I like the bolt to be at least Finn matched - its just the way I was taught when I first got into collecting when I was 17...).

In 18 years of collecting this is the third rifle I've bought knowing that it had a mismatched bolt. I very nearly didn't buy it because of that, but I've been looking for one of these for years, and its in the condition I like (used but not abused) so I told my self I'd only buy it if I could get it cheap......another guy bid me up more than I wanted to but in the end I got it, and I'm not too disappointed.

I keep telling myself it has to have been a field workshop rather than an arms depot put together... The bore has pretty good rifling with "frosting" (light pitting) down the length. The cleaning rod is longer than a regular M91/30 rod, but shorter than an M91 rod....

Also came away with 400+ rounds of CAC 1950s .303 MkVII Ball, and a near mint L1A3 bayonet for a mate.

I like its character, especially those cartouches. Wonder how she shoots?

After a poor start to today (slept through my alarm and missed the ANZAC Day Dawn Service) I took this rifle for a shoot today. I also intended to shoot my new M1917 as well, but picked up an Arisakaicon bolt by mistake....

I took some better photos of the Mosin too....

I also noted the buttplate was made by Remington and later used by Tula...I'd never seen this before...

This was the best group I managed for the day. If that bloody flier wasn't there, it'd be a sub-2MoA group. That group was with my handloads - Hornady .3105 174grn FMJBT over 42grn AR2208 (sold in the US as Varget) in Norma cases with CCI primers. I also tried some 1950s Chinese light ball, and some Barnaul 174grn commercial ammo - neither shot better than foot size groups...

I also tried playing around with some flashy-pants photography...
