    71/84 Bolt probblem

I just got my 71/84 restoration project and ive run into a problem. I can't remove the bolt. I have detailed instructions a bout the washer and lever operation. The washer clears the receiver and the lever moves forward, but the bolt won't pull out. It seems to be hitting something. Any suggestions???

    Wierd but true...

It requires a bit of jiggery-pokery.

On the left side of the receiver you will see the magazine cut-off lever for single-shot/repetition. Push this lever fully forwards, then pull it back a bit. There is an in-between position where the bolt will come free. I can't defined it in mm or whatever, you just have to feel for it!

AND the elevator must be in the up position before you start!

Be VERY careful. Very easy to break a small part and not find a replacemnt.

The seller mentioned a problem with the extractor, a replacement , being too long. The bolt also will not fully cock,, it seems to get hung up and not fully enter the chamber. I wonder if the problems are related.

Try removing the extractor and then cocking the bolt. If it works, then the extractor is indeed too long. I see a diamond file in your future!

There's some information about bolt diss-assembly the MKLicon ..

    1887 I.G. (Infanterie-Gewehr) Model 71/84 (11mm) Mauser

You also might want to try our Google CSE custom search engine located in the top right corner below the words "Advanced Search". It only searches our site using Google techniques and can be quite efficient. For example, in your case, type in the words 71/84 bolt (and other search string variations) and see what happens ...
