    Winchester 69a

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here it is. Just as it came off of Cabela's rack.

Some surface rust and a fair number of dings and dents in the stock but the bore and chamber are nice, the trigger wasn't as bad as I was afraid it might be. I put 10 rounds through it just to hear it go bang and to the rifles credit it put all 10 into a ruffly 4 inch group at 25 yards which for me starting off cold offhand isn't half bad.
I'm in the process of doing a thorough cleaning. It's looking much better all ready. I don't think this poor thing has been cleaned in at least 10 years. Short of the cosmolineicon on my Enfields I have never seen so much congealed oil, hardened grease and powder fouling. It's a wonder it would even fire.

    Great little rifles.

Had the best day of an admittedly limited squirrel season with a grooved version.:

Just about all head shots that day.

Have also my late uncle's 69A. Probably the first rifle I ever fired.

Very nice. Mine has a grooved receiver too but it isn't a chromed version. It looks like yours might be.

    Trigger and bolt look chromed:

Upgraded with Weaver 6x scope from my first scope ever: A KMart 4x (in the upper photo). It's very tired. And abused. But it still performed.

When was the grooved receiver first manufactured?

After WW2 is as close as I can find. It looks to me like our rifles could have been built any time from 1946-1963. That narrows things down.

By the way. You probably all ready knew this but I found out that the trigger on these is adjustable. Mine is now at a very nice 3 lbs.
I have a Redfield 75 receiver sight that I am going to put on this one. I have enough scoped rifles.
