Posts on the deck were apparently mount points for davits:

LST-1 high and dry on the North shore of the Brittany Peninsula during operations against Brest, Franceicon, Sept. 1944.

I think the posts are ventilation stacks that were present on the first design of these ,venting the exhaust gasses from the tank deck , being removed after # 542. # 491 was the first to replace the aircraft type elevator between the top deck and the tank deck with a hindged ramp set up to allow quicker unloading.
