Loose safety mechanism on no4 mk 1

Hello, I picked up my first no 4 the other day and I am unfamiliar with a couple of components on the rifle- mainly the safety mech. This one swings very freely as if there is on spring at all. When the barrel is tilted upward or the butt is placed on the floor it swings back engaging safety position. Before I scour the wonderful World Wide Webness I figured I'd throw the question out here in case it is a very common occurance. I am familiar with the no1 safety and how people sometimes take them apart and then reassemble incorrectly so just wondering if its something like that or missing or worn spring.

Make sure the washer is present and the spring screw is tight. The spring may be tired. It can't be missing or the safety would fall out.

Make sure the two halves screw up together at an "11 o'clock" angle, and not the slightly wider "quarter to 12" angle - which gives the loose, sloppy safety action.
