    48' SMLE screw ID. Please.

    1948 Ishapore SMLE,What's the little screw for on the left side of the receiver just below the charger bridge.?? And should it be turned all the way in and touch the bolt?

    That's the ejector screw and yes, it should be tight in the receiver.

    Mind you, if it TOUCHES the bolt, just stone it back a tad as it should be just clear the bolt

    Its actual job is for ejecting drill/live rounds, fired cases are ejected long before they reach the screw.

    You need a copy of Skennertonicon's Small Arms ID Series on the SMLE, (S.A.I.S. No.1). A bargain at $10 plus post. They have the illustrated parts list and proper nomenclature of the parts.
