Question Need help with markings on No2 MkII Enfield

Hi all, I'm new to Milsurp and could use any expertise with some markings on my No4 MkII Enfield.

On the side of the bolt carrier, I have the No4 MkII followed by FIFTR. Below that, there is: /48 A1904A. The A1904A is stamped on the magazine, bolt and upper reciever. I have no clue what FIFTR represents as well the "A" before and after the 1904.

I have pics and don't know how to post as of yet.

    Any help would be great.

    Thx. Mike

"F/FTR" is Fazakerly, Factory Thorough Repair in 1948. Basically a used rifle rebuilt to new condition. Fazakerly is a rifle manufacturer in the UKicon. The "A1904A" is the rifle serial number with the last "A" standing for non-standard parts used during its initial manufacture.

Mike, From the s/n this may be one of the 'house cleaning' rifles from Fazakerley and BSA-Shirley, a sought after variant.

Quickly, many leftover bits and pieces, along with newly manufactured parts were assembled into complete rifles. Unused WWII vintage action bodies were modified from Mk.I to Mk.2 (trigger mounted to action body). FTR, Factory Thorough Repair, is Brit speak for rearsenal and the process path for modification.

    Brad
