I just picked up a nice, all matching kar98k, 1936 dated S42 manufacture at the local gunshop. The only issues are that at some point someone put a light coat of varnish on it, which is wearing off in a lot of places, and for some reason the Heer marks aren't visible on the stock flat. It's quite worn there, but can't tell if sanded or not. The serial number is there on the underside and the wood-metal fit is good with no "proud" metal so no evidence of extensive sanding. I like these early 98s. They were so anal in their markings-- even the screws are serial numbered. I had almost given up hope of finding something like this at a reasonable price. The original non RC are so hard to find now, are often suspect, and usually ridiculously priced. Maybe I'm just showing my age, but I remember when a nice WWII Mauser was about 350. Now, even the mixmaster RC stuff is 650.
