    Bolt alloy and hardness?

Does anyone happen to know what material was used for Bren bolts (7.92mm Inglis ones, specifically) and how deep they were hardened?

I can only partially answer your question. On one of my .303 bolts I machined off about .015 and it was 'soft' at that depth.
