    12-237 Garand Picture of the Day

    According to Didier Lodieu page 63 of Dying for Saint-Lô, the picture with the caption:
    "The Legend of the period indicates that the American soldier who has just left his position and short dashes is targeted.
    Few tenths of a second later, he dumped on the ground before a new bond "
    All we can add is that this picture makes all the comments as possible as we will simply add that IM is armed with a Garandicon rifle.
    We leave our readers their interpretation

    His shovel is on the correct side. I'd just think he grabbed the rifle and got moving.

    I would think that carrying a rifle in your left hand when you have to have the other hand free was a common practice. I remember reading it somewhere in a hunting mag that it is. I've done it while hunting. I think it's faster to shoulder than if you were carrying it one handed in your right hand.

    Anyways.. What's real eery is that speck above his "left" shoulder. It's probably a something or other on the negative but it sure as heck looks like a bullet. That would have to be some fast film and shutter speed to capture it so well though. I would think .

    Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil;
    For You are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
