Colt SP1 6001 carbine

Here are the pictures of my Colt SP1 6001 carbine. It is nicer than I originally thought. The slick side carrier and chrome bolt are a really nice touch. The chrome bolt a surprise.







There is next to zero wear on any of the internal parts!




I was really surprised to see the old style funnel shaped pin.

The butt stock has one small spot that shows wear. It is not near as bad as the photo shows.


The muzzle is not the slightest bit worn.

I was looking over the 20 round magazines I have and comparing them to the magazine that came with the carbine and notices the pop rivet. Wondering what the heck I started putting rounds into it and sure enough, only five will fit. Is this how Colt did these? I know that all the books say they came with a five round magazine but I have never seen one. I have 15 Colt 20 rounders and none have the same round hole in the slit of the floor plate. I tried to remove the floor plate and it won't budge. I also noticed the five rounder that came with it has a small tab broken off Does the rivet need to be removed to remove the floor plate? I have no intention of messing with it at all, just curious.

Yep. I tried drilling mine out but haven't achieved it yet. It's pretty hard. I just set it aside. I have other 20 rounders.

That's a really nice carbine. Those stocks alone are worth a small fortune. Well, not that much, but they go for a good amount of money. Over 200.

That whole BCG had to have come out of a 1960s rifle.

Mebbe we need a SP1 thread? Think I will scrounge mine up for a closer look. Thanks for the pics Bill.

Roscoe, after some extensive reading on these carbines, they could have any BCG in them. It was a hit and miss thing. The carbine came out long after the advent of the forward assist but for the SP1 rifles and carbines the general consensus is any of them could have either BCG with or without the FA cuts, with or without a chrome bolt. I feel fortunate to have gotten the early configuration bolt.

You also have a non-notched hammer. I'm surprised there isn't a three prong flash hider as well!

It strikes me that the bolt carrier isn't cut back on the bottom, either. Or is it that it just isn't cut back very far? Not all that many early semi-auto guts show up in these parts, so a little education on my end probably wouldn't hurt!
