Need advice for new powders

Hello all,

for the reason that VithaVouri will stop their powder production for sportsshooters i need to think over the use of some new powders. All of my rifle loads are based on the VV N140, except the .30M1 Carbine. I compared the burning rate of the VV N140 with some other powders and came to the IMR 4320, H380, Accurate 2700 and the Reloader 15. My thoughts are, that you will have much more experiences with this sorts of powder. What are your advices? I really loved the N140 cause it gave a close to perfect internal ballistic with only a very small muzzle flash.

Imr 4064 has been my go to powder for long time. I have been loading 54R, 7.5x55 and 223. For a while i could not get 4064 i started using Reloader 15 i really like it. Imr 4198 was a big surprize it shot very in my Mini 14 it shot very well and shoots cleaner than any other powder i have used in a semiauto rifle.

Gunner, You might find that Accurate 2700 powder is quite efficient and extremely consistent in a large number of different calibers.

the only experience i have with the american powders i with H310 and Titegroup. And thats exaclty what i want, using one sort of powder for more calibers.

Talked now to a VV employee and he told me that they will produce the gun powders til June 2014 and are looking to find a investor. So maybe it will be longer to get. Now i ordered the Accurate 2700 and the H380. Only bad thing is,that i can`t get them before 10th of October.....but i have a week off now

Just to expand your choice Ulrich: I have used RL15 as a satisfactory alternative to N140 in several old service rifles.

Im using ADI AR2208 in my enfields....same then in the 308 ftr...

A mild load, 37.5gr....

I've used IMR 4064 in lots of different rifle calibers with quite satisfactory results. IMR 4320 seems good for the 6,5, though. H380 in the 7,7 Arisakas.

Thank you jmoore! Interesting is, that the H380 has the similar burning rate like the N140 but you will find only a few loading datas with the .308 caliber and more for lighter bullets like 100 grs. up to 150 grs. strange!
