    Not Quite a 1911

But pretty close! It's the Sistema Colt.

Picked up one of these a few days ago. Got a good price and some ammo and an extra guide rod. The only bad thing, aftermarket magazine. Otherwise all matching. From the serial number, I believe it is from 1958.

Good pistols. But watch for hammer bite as the hammer spurs are usually left long and fairly sharp edged at the rear! The grips would have been a black synthetic material. Some are hollow backed, others solid.

Yes, the other grips it came with are black.

I got a chance to take it to a range today. I ordered 2 magazines from Liberty Tree Collectors but they haven't arrived yet. Worked well with the aftermarket magazine that came with it. Here is a video of me shooting it.

Mike, put some time into your grip, the cup in saucer went out in the 80's..

Wrap both hands around that bad boy, as high up as you can, point your thumbs down the slide, don't cross them.
You can expect much more control with a good grip.

Thanks for the advice. I learned how to shoot from my dad in the 80's so maybe that explains it.

WarPig1976's advice is quite sound for two handed shooting, but you might want to go "old school" as well. Here's some basic WWII techniques, courtesy of Badger:

Combat Firing with Hand Guns (Department of Defense 1944)

But those folks would get quick DQs for allowing their off-hands to pass in front of the pistol's muzzle whilst drawing!

ETA: if you can't get the video to run, just go to the top sticky thread in this forum.
