Help identifying no4

G'day, I bought a no4 mk1 enfield a couple of years back and boy im having a hard time idetifying it, due to the fact that it has been coated in black paint (or should i say drenched), it is almost impossible to make out proof marks etc.

What I have read on it:

Serial no: 19281
FTR B
1954 on the barrel

but thats it, date of manufacture and any other receiver markings are below the paint which i dont want to remove.

Does anyone have any idea at all as to some info on this rifle?

more pics other side of receiver? The paint has to be removed...around that serial number I suspect.

Its probably a no4 mk1/2

A few more receiver and wrist pics would help.

It's got Mk2 fore-end fitted which would indicate that it's a Mk1/2 or 1/3 rifle although not necessarily I hasten to add! If it's a BSA FTR it would tell me that this was a commercial post-war rebuild contract for an overseas buyer and not a UK Military contract as ours went through our own Ordnance Factories to keep them employed.

I'm not sure that BSA did the Mk1/2 or 1/3 conversion. Anyone else confirm this?

BSA (presumed) did do Mk 1/2, 1/3 conversions in the mid-50's, but the markings are different.

Did you remove the trigger guard to see if is a true conversion or if it is just fitted with a Mk 2 forend?

I read somewhere BSA did the conversions, so this could help narrow it down.

It's quite clearly marked 1/3 on the receiver.
