$2,000 + Krag on CMP auction!

I have one that is basically like it except it has a re-arsenal stock without a cartouche. #281416. Price high because CMPicon is selling it? I do not begrudge them the money...

Most Everything on CMPicon auctions seems to go for very high prices. At least you know it has been checked and is 99.9% legit. I see a lot of Kragicon's on Gunbroker with asking prices of $1500 and up, which are supposedly "1898 carbines", but which most likely are $300 cut downs.

This one has a "hit" in the Springfield Research Service records which might account for some of the bids.

What does the "hit" mean? They can attribute that rifle to a certain company or war?

A hit is a snap shot in time. It means that they found a record that mentions the rifle serial number being at a certain place, usually a military unit, at a certain date.

It is listed as an 1899 carbine. All receivers marked model 1899 are carbines.... not shortened rifles...

Just to get the juices flowing what would a case of 12 unissued US Krags be worth?
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Depends on which model. If it were a case of 92s in original trim, over $120,000.

Thanks, being a Lee Enfield person I literally know nothing about Krags however will ask the person who told me about these if he can get more information.
