    Aussie bayonet

Picked this up at a recent show and knew, even before I slid it out of the '42 Mangrovite scabbard, that it was a pre-WWII blade. For your viewing pleasure, a near pristine 1921 Lithgowicon with a bit of cosmo still on it.Attachment 47156

Beautiful bayonet you've got there! Are you lucky enough to have the wood handles be a similar color of the stock of your SMLE?

Yes. Queensland Maple, right? It would go nicely with my 1919 or 1920 Lithgows

    04 1921 Lithgow 07 bayonet & Lithgow 1921 scabbard

Heres my 4 '21 Lithgow '07 and its Lithgow '21 Dble stitched scabbard that is serial numbered to the unfired '21 Lithgow Mk III I picked up as a pair (I will take detailed pics of her (the rifle that is) a bit later on as it is well and truly squirelled away and hard to get to)

There was a thing about the Australiaicon on the grips I was told because it went o/seas but heck anyone else have a better inkling why they were stamped Australia.

Very nice pick up Husk, story has it with the '21 I have the guy was using it to weed the front yard and the Gunsmith got talking to him acquired the matching rifle and the rest is history as they both reside in my safe now but that sure is a pristine example of a 1921 Lithgowicon 1907.

I have an old Sanderson bayonet on an old now dewat Lanchester that has R.A.N on the rear of the pommell. Which must be Royal Aust Navy as I 'liberated' from 40 Base Workshop where it was used to test for the fit/serviceability/tightness of the bayonet bracket on the old RN and RAN Lanchesters. The rivets on these brackets were always loose so we had to tighten or re-rivet them. If you tack-welded the Lanchester bayonet bracket (never tried or did it, but was told.....) to the casing, it took so much heat that the casing would distort and the barrel wouldn't slide in afterwards. Totally irrelevant to this thread but memory banks just slipping into overdrive......

Anyone else out there have an ex RAN marked one?
