    Firearm History

Looking for input and advice from the experts.

This is certainly easier with a K31icon Troop Tag ... provides all of the required details.

However, looking for insight into how to trace the lineage of a L42A1.

What is the significance of the "106"? Unit #? Pointers as to where to start on this journey?

Thank you in advance for your help.

If the chest is matching to the rifle, sometimes there will be unit markings present. Other than that, it's virtually impossible.

You should post pictures of the chest, because Peter Laidlericon can look up the number to identify the Unit.
To find out more about your rifle, have a look at the sticky entitled: Service for L42A1, Enforcer, Envoy and L39A1 Owners.

On a separate subject, I am intrigued by the tiny flaming grenade stamp visible just under the last digit of your rifle's serial no. (2nd picture). I wonder what that's from?

Looks more like a "3" to me, as if the serial number has been over-struck - there seems to be several numerals underneath the visible serial.

    The # 3 stamp bounced.

The "flaming grenade stamp" would have been a better story

Now that I look again, I think it's a remnant of the original serial number stamps that were linished and renumbered during the L42 conversion process. It looks a bit smaller than the later stamps.
