    Type 1 barrel band colors

I noticed there is a shading difference in the original barrel band on my Standard Products. Now I figured it would have it's finish applied at one time but on this the part that wraps . around the front of the hand guard looks parkerized and the part that wraps the stock looks dilute or maybe a very dark parkerizing. What are your thoughts on how it was done like this ? I couldn't find anything War baby

Just want to add that I've taken notice of this on most original Standard Products carbines

Different types of metals take Parkerizing differently. I notices this after completing my AKM builds. The top cover is a different shade than the trunnion and different from the safety lever. The mottling comes from the part not being 100% clean of impurities at the time of Parkerizing. Mottling can also be caused by any number of materials coming in contact with the finished product. Such as blood, types of oil and cleaners or wrapping and of course rust. In addition, different shading can be caused by the mix of the Parkerizing solution, how old it is, how many parts have been finished in it and a host of impurities within the solution. The first of the three AKMs I finished was a richer and darker Parkerizing than the last one that was lighter and looked to be more mottled in direct sun light.
